I get that.

In not particularly concerned with my caloric intake but I prefer diet coke these days.
Doesn't taste as overly sweet, doesn't leave your teeth feeling like they are coated in a tooth rotting film, doesn't get sticky if you spill it (handy for throwing rowdy parties)... And once you are user to the aftertaste, doesn't taste bad.

It's dumb absolutist thinking. Who says they're trying to "break even?" Maybe they want a damn hamburger and fries but don't need 300 calories worth of sugar on top of that. Makes perfect sense to me. 300 calories is 300 calories regardless of what else you've eaten.


I never drink regular soda in general (on account of ze diabeetus) and it tastes weird to me when I do.

Coke Zero is tolerable, but I generally don't drink soda. If I'm ingesting liquid it should have alcohol in it.

My wife doesn't drink (makes her a hit with our groups as we always have automatic DD) so whenever I'm buying rounds I'm always getting whatever plus a diet coke with lime.

Still feels weird every time, after all these years. The bartenders at crazier places like cruise ships, Key West, Vegas, etc all call me on it, too

Diet Coke tastes different mostly because it's the New Coke recipe, not Coke Classic. Coke Zero is the Coke Classic formula with artificial sweeteners. I'm pretty good at telling the difference between regular sugar and the artificial stuff (been avoiding sugar a long time) and I can barely tell the difference in stuff like Dr Pepper where they use the same flavoring formula between the diet and regular.

I remove the hairs on the middle joint on my fingers, as it annoys the hell out of me.

If you sweat a lot the hair can make you smell terrible, so if he's really hair it makes sense.
