Crapitty crap crap! Crap! Officially announced today that my company, where I have worked for 15 years, will be folded into our parent company as of January 1 and then will cease to exist. Pretty certain my office will be closed. Wonder if I will still have a job?
Stress level just tripled.

I got paid for sitting around Was physically prohibited from trying to go to work on Tuesday, despite the total lack of severe weather. Apparently some roads were closed around the area, but I could easily have gotten in.

I go back and forth on this. On one hand, I can understand why employers wouldn't want to pay employees for not working, but, on the other hand, if you were closed they didn't have any choice.

got that for monday, not tuesday tho. we opened late. was a super chilled day though. so it was cool.

I go back and forth on this. On one hand, I can understand why employers wouldn't want to pay employees for not working, but, on the other hand, if you were closed they didn't have any choice.

You are right to some extent. But in a manufacturing company, where we are paid for stuff we manufacture, if we don't manufacture anything for a day, that is an entire day's worth of productivity that has been eaten and gone and we're paying people for it.

That said, we agreed to pay people for the hours we were closed. The crying I'm referencing are the people who didn't even bother to come in even during the hours we were open.

lolz, if a tree fell on a guys house or crushed his car, or he has flooding so bad its coming through his front door, and cars are floating in the streets, do you really expect him or her to go to work?

im not saying you have to pay them, that depends on the company policy and what sick/vacay/personal days the person has and chooses to use, but i think its more than fair for someone in that situation not to make it in to work.

what i am disputing is whether or not that's my fault, and whether I'm supposed to pay him for it. and the answer is, if you're having car problems i feel bad for you son, you've got vacation and personal days and it's time to take one.

Well, there's foreseeable personal crap (car problems) and then there's force majeure-type things (flooding, icy streets, brown-bottle flu) that are beyond anyone's control. In FM type situations, we pay out anyway (goodwill and all that) but expect extra effort to get us back to where we expect to be at month-end. And no, we're not talking extra-hours / overtime.
