That red NATO on the Explorer really was a great idea. I wish that they had not replaced the 36mm Explorer. Then again, I am of the belief that the Explorer has become progressively worse since its first iteration. Now it just looks confused.
Here's a challenge for you then...
Black seal compass strap on 183.
Lovely 5711! Here a sideview of my Nautilus, with pushers
Good commentary.
But here's a Unitas based Panerai that I treasure.
And worn by the late Stefano Bemer while he showed me leather clicking.
The current iteration of the Explorer I is 39mm; it keeps the same classic looks, but is simply sized up a bit. 42mm would be the Explorer II. I have to say that while too large for my tastes, they did a nice job with the case and lug design.
The real travesty is the newest redesign of the Submariner - it ruined the aestetics of an iconic watch. The larger squared lugs can only be described as horrendous; they give the watch a pseudo-square shape and fail to flow into the bracelet. Taking a look at the new version side by side with a classic piece leaves little doubt to which is more pleasing.
is that the strap with the back piece sewn on? or is it the kind that you run through the loops? (does that make any sense??)
wow. fantastic
As long as you are happy with it thats what matters. As for it being worn by Stefano Bemer, its nice if that matters to you. Someone else buying or wearing something is rarely a selling point to me.
The back leather is sewn on, making it near impossible to put on a 183.
He is wearing my watch.
As for what you buy, its your own perogative. But if in house movement is your thing, here's something you may appreciate.
i know they use 904L and most use 316L. but ive read so much about there being no real difference thats noticeable. 316 has less nickel and is a bit shinier...the biggest difference is NOT in hardness, but reactivity to acids. which you wont be coming in contact with. Its a bragging right. But the acid that would melt the 316 while the 904 is still standing wouldve eaten your arm off long before.
Ive had both steels....you cant tell a difference.
Emy's watch is proof you can scratch the hell out of a Rolex if you beat on it. But my experience, much like Stitches's is that the brushed surfaces on my Rolex watches seemed to scratch a bit less easily, and when they did, they seemed to hide the scratches a bit better than some other brands. Not sure if its specific to the steel they use, or if its more the effect of the shape of their links and the brushing on the surface that provides the illusion of hiding scratches better than some flatter links on bracelets from other watches.
Nobody ever posts my grail watch.
Perhaps if someone ever posts it. There is the unwritten rule that you don't post watches you personally are not at least wearing.
