I have the opportunity to purchase a lightly worn AP 15202ST initially sold in June 2015. It is a full set and the watch shows minor signs of wear. The watch has never been polished. The seller is asking 15500 euro along with trading in my Panerai 27B that I have in my signature for sale.

An AP dealer called me earlier this month, that he will be getting a 15202ST in April, I have read that a 10% discount on the watch should be achievable, bringing the cost on the watch BNIB to 20K euro.

What do you guys think, would be the financially more wise move? Buy the new one or the used one?
Considering you'd have to add your Panerai as it sits, you'd essentially be "selling" it for 4.5k Euro and getting a slightly used watch versus getting a BNIB.

Why not just sell it for 4.5K on the open market to make up the difference on the new one? You're asking 7k right now, it would probably move fast for 4.5. Or sell it for 7K and pocket the extra 2,500?

15.5K € plus a Panerai isn't exactly the deal of the century for a used 15202.

Anyway, this is not a difficult decision if a new one can be had for about the same price.

Speaking about compliments on watches from the general public with a friend I have never had as many compliments
on any of my PP, VC, L&S, IWC or Pam as much as I get on this watch which was just an impulse buy because I do not like skeleton watches much anyway!

I'd sell the panerai for as much as possible and purchase the new 15202. Why take a lesser amount on your Panerai so that you can buy the used RO? Doesn't sound like that seller is doing you any favors.

I purchased my 15202ST new in 2012, and as far as I'm concerned it was one of, if not the most satisfying watch purchases I have made. Wishing you lots of luck!
For a bit of inspiration...

The general public seems to like skeleton watches and being able to see what they perceive are its inner workings.

However, the serious watch collector market (a much smaller group than the general public) doesn't seem to care for them, and it shows in the pre-owned market. Skeleton watches even from big name brands tend to have insane amounts of depreciation. A few of my collector friends say, they like how skeleton watches look in a display cases, but hate seeing their wrists and or wrist hair through the dial when wearing them. Come to think of it, of all my serious collector friends, only one has owned a skeleton watch (a VC perpetual calendar, purchased pre-owned and he sold it after just a few years). Cheers!

Thanks a lot to all that commented on my post, your responses snapped some sense into me. I will indeed pass on this opportunity and take my time to sell my Panerai, and purchase a new one hopefully in April or otherwise sometime down the road.

Dino944: wear yours in the best of health. It is a beauty!

Operative words in bold… not at all surprising in that case.

Nice, Dino! Where does BLNR stand as far as satisfaction? Just curious? Close to RO or not even remotely close?

Dino that looks incredible on you. Solid is the word that comes to mind but is such an understatement.

Alright guys, I need some advice. Looking to buy my first nicer watch and need some suggestions. Budget is around $1200. I've looked at the Tag Formula 1, different Shinola's, and a few Tissot. I'm only a few years removed from college and work for a medical tech company so it's pretty casual. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
