How so?

The type of cuisine (or culture) has never been an excuse for me for slow service. Even in the other French-staffed joints around LA and elsewhere, I've had good service even if the food takes a while to prepare. Not getting a refill on my glass or waiting twenty minutes to find the guy to bring the check isn't part of some "experience" for me.

While im sure not getting your check 5 minutes after the last course is served, or a water refill can be a bummer, thats a unique issue with the staff at that moment. How hard is it to flag the maitre de and express your needs?

I dont think i need to explain french service to someone who has experienced it and knows foods, im just saying that sounds typical. Its a traditional bistro, its going to be leisurely paced.

I was just watching Man vs. Food and he went to El Tepeyac in Boyle Heights(I think). Had Machaca, it looked good. Anyone ever been there? I searched the thread and didn't find anything.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Food Truck thing. It's Saturday. I have to work now anyway so obv I'm passing.

Skipping the food truck thing as I suspect it will be nothing short of a cluster...

Any particular reason?

I think it's worth going at least once, for the novelty of it.

Personally I find the food to be generally very good even without the novelty, and service is usually excellent.

I guess I'll have to go back to AOC the next time I'm in LA

I went once and enjoyed it, but I sort of came out considering it to be on a tier below the more world-class establishments in LA

but seems like everyone in here is quite enamored

has it changed substantially in the last 18 months or so? It has been a while since I've been.

I agree. The one time I went I was not overly impressed. Fine but not awesome. I like Lucques better.

On another topic, besides Standard Issue, are there other good stores nearby for shopping/browsing? Gonna hit up MOCA and hopefully Lazy Ox tonight.

Okay so whos taking advantage of this $60 for dinner, movie, and valet for two at the Grove or Americana? Yeah they are kind of played out places in LA but a deal like that for a decent dinner and movie is ridiculous. I actually like Frida too.

The pork is a bit absent from the sandwich but it's a pretty good sandwich. The cole slaw and the sauce give it a zesty/refreshing flavor that I like. Also, it was a bit different the two times I had it. now it's burrata time.
