That comes back to the idea that any idiot can get on the web and imagine that he half assed opinions have value. I don't care if you concur or not, I am not getting my information from wikpedia, I am getting it from spending time in the gulf.

Ghutras have been around for centuries and it's main purpose is to shelter the head from heat. However the palestinians, lebanese, syrians and jordanians want to put a spin on it, at the end of the day, the ghutra amongst the arabs in the middle east is just a piece of cloth that helps prevent the head from being fried.
Yes, if you are a manual laborer in part of the middle east you can certainly wear a kaffiyah without any political meaning.

But there are dozens of variations on the same basic head covering. Choosing the one that we are refering to as a kaffiyah is a political choice.
