"My gosh, Muffy, I can't believe he's wearing that awful red jacket again!"

MoneyWellSpent's Southern Trad Thread presents The FU Holiday Challenge!

The winner will receive a $50 eGift Certificate from Brooks Brothers.

You task is to post your best FU Holiday outfit from this season. What is an FU Holiday outfit? Those of you familiar with the American Trad genre of clothing will know. It's that awful red plaid sport coat and the reindeer tie that you only wear once a year, or that Blackwatch three piece suit and Santa lapel pin that only your family can stand to see you in. Perhaps you're a conservative kind of guy who prefers a simple navy blazer and black knit tie but wears it with the green corduroy trousers with the embroidered red Santas. You get the idea. The louder, more obnoxious, and more festive the better! If you're still confused, here is some inspiration...

Never worn an FU Holiday fit before? Here is your chance to have some fun in a truly Trad way and say FU to good taste. How far you're willing to push the boundaries of taste is up to you, as long as you have fun!

The challenge will run until noon (U.S. CST) on December 29th so you have plenty of time. Here are the rules...

1. Must include jacket and tie.
2. Must include at least one major element in a FU pattern or color. Major elements can be Jacket, Trousers, Vest, Sweater, Tie, or Shirt. FU socks, while appreciated, don't count. We need to be able to SEE it after all.
3. Must be "festive" (open to interpretation, I know, but patterns and holiday colors are appreciated).
4. Must be from THIS holiday season.
5. "Ugly Sweaters" NOT allowed. Save your Tipsy Elves looks for the office party. This prohibition does not include traditional sweaters like Fair Isle, and so on.
6. Photo MUST be taken either in public or in the company of other people, because it's not really FU if there's no one around to see it! So no lonely bathroom selfies or empty wall photos.

Entries will close on December 29th at noon. (That's, noon Central U.S. time)

Winner will be determined by public poll, multiple votes allowed. In the unlikely event of a tie I will choose the winner.

The winner will win a $50 E-Gift Certificate to Brooks Brothers. Winner must have a valid email address by which to receive the eGiftCard.

There you have it. Have fun and good luck!

Fun! But what is the judging criteria? The most FU fit? The most FU fit that still looks presentable? Will things like cut and fit be considered?

Thanks for organizing this!

@JohnAAG Good questions! I'll leave the judgment of those things up to the public. The individual voter can set their own criteria for what they will privilege. The only thing I'll step in for is if someone isn't sure whether they are really wearing an FU item. I don't predict too many problems with that because I get the feeling that most of us understand the spirit of this challenge. But, you know, just in case. :)

Earlier today someone (the name has been changed to protect the innocent) thought my tie looked like an FU tie.

It's a Brooks Brothers British-American Chamber Of Commerce Christmas tie.

The front of the tie looks like this (in the pre-dawn gloom of my living room).

Some might think my shoes are more FU than my tie.

FU is in the eye of the beholder.
