War Games Hacking into computers under the backdrop of nuclear annihilation.... If that doesn't define the 80s, what does?

The defining 80's film has to have each of the following: 1) Synthesizer-loaded soundtrack. 2) Fog machine. 3) Fetishized fixation with a very outdated techno trick (ala laser lights). 4) Cocaine. 5) Serious themes such alienation, lost youthful innocence, and identity, which are addressed through flamboyant, choreographed dance numbers. I think that leaves Purple Rain.

Wow, that is some ingenious typography! Was that used in the original promotions for the movie, or only for the DVD release?

I agree with Top Gun but want to throw another one out for consideration: Revenge of the Nerds.

have to go either spielberg or hughes- both directors' works are probably the most influential in that decade. different audience but the impact was definitely there. my vote goes to 'e.t' and 'breakfast club'

for cheesiness that defines the 80s in a comical way, I'd say 'running man'

Did it help define the 80's? No, not really, but it's a hell of a good film.

Good Lord, it's like we're brothers or something.
