Styleforum User reports and questions on technical issues

Report rate is tied to the post rate, which is 30 seconds. If we decreased it, then you'd see even more spam per minute in the late night hours of the US time zone. We have mods who are in different parts of the world who are generally able to take out the spam within a short while of it being posted. It's tough to strike a balance between restrictive on new accounts while not discouraging new members from posting immediately, and we tend to err on letting people post immediately without approval, but after the system does IP and spam email database checks.

We're working on some site speed changes. Cloudflare error might be related to an http2>origin setting in Cloudflare. I've tried disabling it for now. Please let me know if you see it again.

I get it with the spam reporting wait time, the downside to shortening it would be some 12 yr old coming on and reporting 50 legit posts as spam in a minute.
But spam takedown seems to be lagging.
I'll report it and see it an hour later. The faster it gets zapped, the more likely they won't come back.
I also see the cloudflare error regularly.

Is it a specific thread?

No - I get the message either when I attempt to look at a response to a thread where someone has liked or quoted me, or when I attempt to get into a thread directly from the Classic Menswear main page, although I've never had an issue getting into this thread.

Here's what I've gotten trying to get into the Quintessential Crockett & Jones thread just now:

Bad Request​

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

Additionally, a 400 Bad Request error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I got the same message attempting to look at one of my posts liked by another member.

You are by far the most prolific reporter of spam so kudos to you. Also, I don't know about the other mods, but when I see a spam report, I'll usually check new posts for other spam. Also, if you notice a single user posts multiple spams, no need to report more than once.

I'm up pretty early for the pacific time zone at 5am and typically deal with the over night spam while the coffee is brewing. I'm usually dealing with spam that gets posted between midnight to 4am pacific. There will sometimes be a flurry around 6-7am. I don't think zapping it faster really has much bearing on whether they come back.

Also, I see the cloudflare error about once per day.

From my research, this error is most often caused by corrupted cookies on your device. I recommend deleting the cookies associated with Styleforum on your browser. If you need assistance with this, shoot me a PM and I can walk you through it.

There is am issue with XenForo loading previews of external content from Spam posts:

I see this giving an insight to spam operators about their efficiency and potentially leveraging vulnerabilities on end-user's side.

I propose to disable these until a user has reached certain number of posts and/or reputation.

With that particular add-on, it's an either/or situation. I can turn off the previews for Medium.com for everybody, but not for a specific user/group.

I'll ask the devs if they're interested in uncoupling the two. Based on our previous requests, I think it's unlikely that they'll acquiesce, but it's worth a shot.

Err.. Patch the addon? Blind xfer from external endpoints is generally problematic. Can be abused.

We're running the latest version of the addon. It loads embedded content without injecting third-party scripts into the page.

On my Android smartphone, I get the following error when trying to access Styleforum.net:

In other words: Can't get onto Styleforum on my phone which previously had no trouble posting to Styleforum ever. Any help would be greatly appreciated when you get an opportunity. Thanks!
