I'm looking to pick up a few pairs of sneakers for kickin' around town and am very much a SF noob. Perhaps you guys can help me find some kicks that meet my criteria. I am not looking for rare special editions of iconic brands or anything like that. Just good looking, well made, solid value shoes.

Here are some guidelines:

  • People should generally not be able to identify their brand at a glance (ie, no "iconic" brands like NB, Puma, Nike etc)
  • Must be able to last at least 3 years of moderate use
  • Prefer brands who do matte earth tones well
  • Preference given to leather, suede or nubuck construction
  • Price - under $200

To give an idea, here are my current favorites, a pair of Strellsons I picked up in Berlin a few years back:

Iconic styles: Adidas Sambas and Converse Chuck Taylors. They will work with casual outfits. As the other poster said, if you're looking for something special, there's an extensive thread to help you pick out the kind of sneaker you want.

Good luck!
