Just fyi - placed the following MTO today:

Enzo Bonafé Double Monk
Last: 946
Upper leather: Vitello Nero (Black calf)
Size/width: UK 10, E width
Construction/Sole: Black "Fondo chiuso" sole with Blake construction (slim waist)
Lining: Red Goat Lining

I have for some while now obsessed over the thought that the 946 last would make the perfect last for a mean, lean, chiseled Darth Vader like Black Double Monk, even more so when paired with fire red lining. I generally find the Bonafé welt/sole much too protruding, excessive and clunky (for dress shoes, not for boots!), so since Bonafé is one of the very few manufacturers that offer a high-quality Blake construction, I have happily chosen this slim black and very Italian option that I love for decades now (just look at the slim sole lines on this boot to see what I mean: http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0277/2511/products/Bonafe-Button-Boot-Peccary-01_1024x1024.jpg )

Since the pingrain is not available at Edward Green at the moment, perhaps you could gently suggest they look into adding it again.

How about Maple Stag, or any color of Stag? I'll look to see if there are other interesting materials that are less common that could be helpful to ask about.

A swatch might help. Do you have an example of what it would look like? Anything special about stag?

It's like a shaggy soft suede. It is excellent stuff. I believe it may be unavailable or sporadically so, like Heather Gorse or Willow calf. Just another opportunity for something different and off the beaten path. Of course there's always elephant or hippo too. Cheers.

Suede alone generally doesn't interest me. However I might be interested in elephant or hippo.

Enzo Bonafe Baby Lama Chukkas on the 363 Last

Leather is incredibly soft and comfortable, wears almost like suede. Lot's of nice texture and comfy round last, similar to Carmina Detroit with a little more instep room or EG 202. Only issue for me is the heel stiffener (plastic/ leather not sure) goes really up so it digs a little into the middle of my foot. Probably needed to support leather and will probably go away with wear so not too big a concern.

Thanks, I took a 9 and it's a bit tighter than I want but still wearable as leather is quite soft. I would take 9.5 on future pairs

Carmina I have 9 Detroit but that is too tight in instep, 9.5 Wide Forest, Rain are better fits.

EG 9.5 / 10 F normally for boots

I think that is deer, stag is different at least g & g stag was textured leather. @Leaves can shed more light to it.

I believe the suede-like material pictured is what EG once called stag. I make no representation of the exact type of deer it is. But I will say this: a stag is a (male) deer, a.k.a buck, bull, depending on type, place, and English dialect.

To your point, I suppose it's like calf in that you can make it into suede, nubuck, or smooth leather. I like the way it looks and would consider it. I also mentioned pingrain originally, which is like a mini and refined country calf, but EG does not have it; G&G does have it, however.

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but what are the chukka boots actually made from?

Are they made from llama leather (ie the South American animal) or is "Lama" leather a version of calf leather (ie bovine leather) that's been treated in a particular way?

In any case, it reminds me of this whimsical poem by Ogden Nash:

Seriously, though, my dad used to recite Ogden Nash and Hilaire Belloc poems to me before bedtime when I was young, and some of them stuck in my head.

This is another good (albeit short) one - although more suited to adults than children, perhaps:
