Charcoal and grey are easier colors to work with. With charcoal, you can even show off nice patterns, such this. The man pictured there is perhaps a bit too classic and traditional looking for SWD's taste, but again, I'm only linking to showcase the color and pattern of his coat. There are also navy and camel overcoats, with camel being the harder color to work with, but still holds great potential. This, of course, should all be considered against the color of the suit you're planning to wear with this. You don't want the color of your overcoat to look too close to the color of your suits, which is perhaps why camel might hold great potential (unless, of course, you are the rare man with a collection of camel colored suits).

As for Tommy Hillfiger, I've never seen a garment by them that I've been impressed with. I haven't handled this overcoat specifically, but given their track record, I would advise against them. Everything they've made seems to feel very cheap and pedestrian. If you hunt around, you can perhaps find one by Brooks Brothers or Ralph Lauren on sale (or perhaps slightly used) for probably not too much more. However, I'm not a specialist in overcoats, so questions on what makers to turn to should probably be deferred to the MC side of the board. Perhaps you can start a thread on it.

Thanks, great advice. I've always had the feeling that black looks boring, but I couldn't say why. I will be looking for other colors than black.

I know, TH is probably not an SF-approved brand. As I live in Switzerland my options are a bit limited. Unfortunately there are no shops around that carry Brooks Brothers or Polo Coats. The quality of the TH coat felt okay, it's 75% wool/5% cashmere and quite soft. But I will look for other coats.

yeah they do a great job with their washes, just not comfortable with the 19cm cut. same issue as a lot of other people: thighs too tight.

i think its really hard to make certain colors work. I use to wear color only, and it was extremely difficult to not look tacky with some colors.

Both are about the same price: Heritage Research USN Deck Sweater. Design influenced by the classic 1940's USN issue deck sweater. Hand loomed in Scotland from locally sourced natural wool.

I think that settles it for me. I was leaning toward the first one as well, partly because I think it would fit me much better. Thanks, guys.
