I think he has gotten better with this over time. Early on, he never posted any negative comments I submitted. Now he does.

I still look at his site every day - I wish there were less industry people and more "civilians," but I do find the blog very entertaining. I stopped reading the comments a while ago, except in the few cases when I choose to comment myself. There really isn't a lot of interesting things to find in the comment section anyways. The only time he ever failed to post a something from me was when I made a flippant comment about a woman (some industry woman he posts all the time) looking like a man.

Anyways, if a gallery wants to give him a show, and he sells a bunch of prints, who cares?

Thanks to Scot for taking Styleforum's views of his work seriously enough to post a thoughtful response. It's the quality of Scot's photos and his eye that have made him successful, but Styleforum and Ask Andy were very early and enthusiastic supporters of Scot's project when there was almost nowhere else he could go. He should remember that and link to the sites.

I have a suspicion that his new Conde Nast overlords, who likely consider us their competition in certain markets, would frown on his linking to us.

Charles Townsend and his underlings would probably love to have sites like SF and AAAC disappear.

Scott Schulman is just another dude trying to pay his bills. I don't understand the level of bitterness toward him. He's good at what he does, and now thinks there's a market for his photos -- which is certainly not unreasonable. I wouldn't pay his asking price, but hey, different strokes...

Thom Brown is not getting hate on this site just contempt....
I don't get the hype around him but to say we do hate him is a bit strong...

We have to respect other people's views and concepts...
Some people will think that we're mad spending nearly £2000 on a piar of bespoke or even more on a suit ,therefore it is difficult for us to criticize Thom Brown's vision...

Socal ,you are pasionated about this brand and maybe some of the criticism is there to wind you up...

I have neither hate nor contempt for Thom Browne. Just pity for his victims.

I'll say that there is some merit in his work, a certain level of art (not a very high level, but enough to call it art). The prices are ridiculous and are only that high because:

1. It's New York.

2. He's semi-famous. He's like a brand name and people are paying for that rather than the work.

However, although I find his site interesting with plenty of nice ideas he does fail in two areans.

1. A real artist is aware that in order to be able to sell your work, you can't just give it away.

2. A smart artist who runs a website is smart enough not to put large enough images (or high enough quality images) so that people can just right click and save the image to their desktop and print it themselves.

Yes, if you really want to have one of his images on your wall, but you don't want to spend $1200 . . . all you have to do is save it to your desktop, open it up in photoshop and adjust the image size to 8x10 (luckily he has them up at 9x14 jpg when you click to enlarge).

And even though they're at 72 dpi, that's good enough for a 8x10 print. Personally I would increase it to 254 dpi (industry standard) before sizing down the image. Go spend $30 on a frame and there ya go.

Thanks to the OP for the invitation but i'd rather meet some of you for a cocktail rather than stand in a white box drinking bad wine.

The great idea is to take pictures of normal people or fashionistas and putting them on a dedicated fashion-orientated blog...
Who is not dreaming of the infamous fifteeen minutes of fame? Being seen as being fashionable, interesting ,different, creative is a boost to the humble ego....

The concept is very clever...Self-delusion of grandeur is the best communication tool ever produced...
The people being photographed will help you to develop your blog and the all fashion community is dreaming of being seen.....

Is he an artist or a fraudster? Is Klein or Pollock are artists or fraudsters?
As long we do have people ready to buy his pictures ,he will subject us to them...
The answer? Do not buy them ignore his blog and stop talking about him, that will be his real punishment when nobody will give a monkey about his pseudo-artistic world...
