I used up the last of my Divine L'Ame Soeur today. I'll have to get some more; it's one of my favorites.

I thought it was supposed to be a rather feminine scent.

Today SL - Ambre Sultan. Great sweet, warm scent.

I'll be very interested to hear how that goes!

It was a very fun experience - I wanted a masculine floral because I wasn't impressed with the ones I've smelled. Here are the components:

Citron
Jasmine Grandiflorum - quite indolic with that hint of poop
Tea Rose
Night Queen Tuberose
Muguet (Lily of the Valley)
Plumeria
Carnation - so misunderstood of a scent, in my limited experience
"Earth" - Patchouli and Cedar
Oak Moss
African Musk
Bay Rum

I am trying not to overthink the scent so I don't end up sabotaging it. Nothing stands out, which makes me happy because I find it to be quite elegant. We'll see!

Yeah, I thought the bay rum was especially surprising in the context of the other notes.

How did you arrive at that set of notes? Did you go in knowing pretty much what you wanted?

I had no freaking clue. I wanted something that was totally unlike what I already owned because my logic was why bother otherwise.

The bay rum was certainly on the fence, but I kept it on the olfactory periphery while we were sampling the scent combinations and I really liked the tension it created. I wanted an herbal for the quantity of floral and a vegetal basenote that was not vetiver.

On another note, I was surprised at how discordant lavender was with the combinations. I was hoping and trying to get one of my favorite of all scents incorporated but it just wasn't happening.

YSL Y Parfum. This has to be pretty nearly the perfect feminine chypre.

Habit Rouge yesterday and today. This really is a masterpiece. It seems like everyday I am discovering a new facet. I love the vanilla/leather drydown. I am wearing the EdT, though I have smelled the EdC, which may be even better (they only had a tester of edc, arrgh!).

Yesterday: Chanel Pour Monsieur
Today: A*Men Pure Havane. Surprisingly good, given the polarizing nature of Angel and A*Men.

Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint Germain today. I didn't like this a lot at first, but it's really been growing on me lately. There's a lot going on: it's spicy, citrusy, floral, and resiny.
