I'm planning to buy my first pair of Crockett & Jones, but I just have a small question before proceeding with my purchase.

It's the Chelsea 5-model in dark brown I'm planning to buy. But I've heard that it's made with some kind of "waxed nubuck" (antique nubuck) which should be treated as regular calf. But according to C&J's website, it's made of "Dark Brown Wax Calf". The local C&J retailer also told me that it's calf and not nubuck.

Who's right? Is it nubuck or waxed calf?

Anyone who could answer my question above?

I just picked up a pair of Edgeware in dark brown. I was in need of another pair of dark brown oxfords for wear with suits and was torn between the Edgeware and Westfield. I ultimately went with the Edgeware because it was a bit more unique than most other oxfords out there. The plain toe, however, might show creasing more than a captoe.

Love the way they look. Awesome! I have been toying with the idea of getting some Conistons. I'm beginning to think I might own too many boots (horrors!). I was saying on the Alden thread that I prefer (and my wardrobe leans towards) a casual style and with boots, that translates into a nicely worn pair. As many of my favorite boots are fairly new (and with three more preorders coming), it is going to take way too long to get the nice worn-in look and patina like yours have.

I need to cull down my collection or decide not to rotate equally and just wear and rotate the boots I like and want to get worn-in more quickly. Does anybody else have this problem? Or do most of you like your footwear to remain more pristine/dressy?

The Conistons are a classic model, nothing flashy or spectacular by themselves but I've seen some beautifully aged pairs, mainly from people who've evidently loved them and worn them a lot. Crat posted a pair of fantastically aged Conistons (not his) some time back which kick mine into a cocked hat.

I wouldn't worry about 'getting wear' on your boots as leather, like denim and wood, always looks vaguely 'wrong' when it's been treated in a way that might age it faster than normal. It doesn't have the 'wabi sabi' effect on the observer, if you know what I mean.

Sounds more like you need to stop buying boots and start wearing the ones you already own! Oh, and anyone who buys nice boots or shoes and wants to keep them pristine needs to rethink their rationale and reasoning behind buying clothes and not wearing them as intended. I suspect a lot of the wardrobes and shoe collections paraded on this site were bought with that primary intention in mind, with actually wearing the clothes a secondary consideration...

There's somehting special in these shoes that make me want them. This grain calf look so soft and comfy!
Especially love that they have hidden front seam unlike Vass nst in the same style.
What's a name of this model? Is it Algonquin? Can't find it on a site.
