Pocket problems with big thighs

I have tried searching for an answer to this question for some time now, but I am still unable to find one that is satisfactory. Lately, I have realized that most of my pants do not fit me quite right (the pockets flare out when I wear them). I have a few pairs of pleated pants, but they look too baggy around the thighs, and they do not look as flattering as flat front pants. I usually wear a size 34 waist, which is fairly comfortable. How should I go about buying flat front pants? Would buying a bigger waist size and having the waist taken in solve this problem? If so, how much bigger?

It's not your thighs. This is endemic to nearly all slim-ish flat-front pants I own. IME the waist being too small will exacerbate the issue but it still exists in some small degree on pants I own that would be be classified as slightly loose. I don't know the exact reason, it may just be a necessity of the construction so you can fit your hand in the pocket.

I've got the same problem. When I wear flat front pants, I've accepted that the pockets are purely decorative. Either accept that, wear pleated pants, or find someone to make pants for you.

Sounds like you need to enter an MTM program. My suggestion is: go to a clothier with an MTM program and have them help. This seems to be the best move, IMHO.

It also depends whether the pockets are onseam or off the seam. I note that onseam flares out the most. The further the top part of pocket is off the seam, the less apparent the issue. And if you still have the issue, then just resign yourself to the fact that you have hips like a woman.
