meh. i call bull on that one. I'm 29 as well and I just started working on my Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering last year. My company is paying for it, and it will take me 4yrs to finish, but eventually it will result in a change of careers (from business/strategy to engineering or engineering management).

29 isn't too old to do ANYTHING. Even med school. Don't let anyone tell you different. And who cares about the friends who are getting their PhDs and teaching ... even if you started today, you'd only be a few years behind them ... and when you are all 65 years old and still teaching at a university, who will give two ***** about who started teaching when 27 as opposed to 31??

It's also surprising that you haven't been vigorously pursuing defense industry giants for employment. With a Masters from MIT there HAS to be one or two major employers who need a good engineer. Just because you got a degree in an obscure field means nothing to big industry. They aren't going to have you doing thesis work in those jobs anyways.

Bottom line is: you're an engineer with an advanced degree from MIT.
