I have to disagree with you. Paying someone else to do basics that you could easily do yourself is a waste of money.
Learn to be a miser and you'll have earned money just by saving it. D.I.Y. excersizes your mind and develops hand-eye coordination.
Why rot on a sofa watching TV when you can rot on the sofa listening to the TV and sew a few buttons in the process.
To each his own, I guess. I would rather spend the (precious little) free time I get doing things that I enjoy, and I can assure you that sewing my clothes does not figure anywhere. Plus, I do not own a TV -- it is hard to sew when reading a book or climbing a mountain.
Both of these are really good sides to the argument. I'll decide at some point in the month if it's worth it to me to try some minor repairs. Either way, I'm not buying anything new, so I'm in for March (at least)! About halfway through day one and I'm still alive...maybe this won't be as hard as I thought.
