New Cordovan Leather Care

I am expecting some new Alden cordovan boots in the mail from Alden of Carmel soon. On the AoC website, there are a few paragraphs about preparing Cordovan leather for the weather ( http://www.alden-of-carmel.com/index...l_cordovan.htm on the bottom).

I was wondering whether others have tried this approach, and what others have done with new cordovan leather in general.

I don't believe in all this black magic. One guy does something, says it works (it may work but is there any way to tell why?), tells another guy, another guy posts it on the webs.

I have found new cordovan to take on water and make spots, I have seen old cordovan to be fairly water resistant. I would guess it's a matter of the number of waxes and length of time it has been exposed to air (age).

What do I do? I don't wear new cordovan into the rain. I wear my old ones.

Foolishly, perhaps, I just put mine on my feet and wear them.

no real need to prep the uppers prior to wearing in the wet however it's wise to brush the bejabbers out of them after letting them dry naturally. some subscribe to weather proofing the leather soles of their shoes. Best wishes and congrats on the new kicks!
