I think this is more in the area of quotation rather than trope.

My point is that the sheet of glass gag, instead of being merely a trope or cliche, is a deliberate reference that assumes the viewer's familiarity with the gag. It's certainly not because construction workers carrying a pane of glass across the street is an everyday occurance-- I don't think I've seen this happen once in real life.
