The typical "Italian" cut tends to be slimmer and more cropped for sure- I would size up to IT52 trousers. I have some Incotex in IT50 that are on the slimmer side, and I find the rise a little low even for a trouser with side-adjusters.
By contrast, I have Zegna and Armani semi-casual trousers in IT50 that are too large- I had a similar experience with Lardini. My Pal Zileri dress slacks in IT48 fit perfect, ditto GTA Il Pantalone. Boglioli IT50 fit good too.
I had a 32" size waist but over time have grown towards 34", In truth I'm somewhere near 33" which is too rare to find on sale.
If you buy a trouser too big in the waist, you can always get that fitted better, but you can't add seat room to an undersized trouser.
