Loved Roger's line about Don's first interview: "You sound like a prick!"

Roger gets every good line.

I like how this season wasn't what you expected, Don being called a failure, Don paying for sex, Don giving up when his date didn't want him to come up.

I also liked the return of the Don we saw in the pilot w/ Menkens (I'm not going to let a woman talk to me like that...) it was that initial bravado and bullishness that drew me in. His saying 'this is a creative agency' and then essentially not backing down, prooving it wasn't a bluff.

He's still Don though, the thing with the hams... ******* brilliant, he knew it was. He knew Peggy was right, there is something about their relationship that we don't know, or I don't know. He always acts paternal in a way.

Also, I hope they bring back Fred Rumsen... even if only for a cameo.

This christmas party ought to be interesting... seeing the dynamic between Lee and the office staff. Especially w/ the whole 71% of billings being Lucky Strike.

This season will have to be more business, there's really no way it can't be.

I'd love to see Don kick Betty and Henry francis out. I do like Henry though. Seems like a decent guy for the most part.

I can't remember, but was the bail money transaction basically Don paying back his debt to Peggy re: his auto scrape-up? Or had he repaid her before this?

I agree that Don probably thought better of her plan than he let on, though he does have a point. There are plenty of companies who might shy away from such antics, particulary at this point in time, at the beginning of such social upheval (as evidenced by the whole Jantzen thing). As for his attitude, it seems to be a sexist thing. He respects her ideas and her work, but he doesn't want to coddle a woman and probably overreacts when he thinks that's coming on. I don't think Peggy wants to be coddled at all, but Don probably thinks she does. There's also the fact that she's very apologetic, and that may signal weakness to him.

True. C'mon, he even stuck up for Don when Don threatened to charge rent.

ic devils three way coming.

seriously though, Francis Henry will soon come to his senses and it will be hot potato with don using betty. maybe they'll actually find a way to have betty to really fall of the deep end and commit suicide.

ok how about we start a prediction portion:

betty will die somehow (probably by suicide)... she's a fascinating character, but she's a terrible mother, and brings nothing to the table but her beauty and disfunction.

i'd like her to stay, but the writers have no qualms about killing/writing off characters.. look at Sal. Cosgrove's name is still on the credits though so he's going to show up again.

Or Betty could become a raging alcoholic. I suspect Sally is going to be a handful...

Also, Kenny Cosgrove is in the poster for this season! He'll probably end up locked in battle with Pete over some client...or maybe they'll run into each other on the bar and casually compare notes on how they're doing, which will either leave Pete seething and/or Kenny being asked to join.

Don's secretary from SC was back, so obviously they rehired some personnel from SC. So Cosgrove can come over at any point.

That and the "maybe you should have fondled peg leg pete" line from Sterling were the the best of the show.

I thought it was a fairly solid episode. We're four seasons deep now and this would be the traditional year of shark jumping. They seem to be safe from that danger right now.

WTF with the whore slapping Don?

WTF with his tie knot and ultra narrow lapels (is that period?)

When is Don's fake persona going to get revealed? The peg-leg reporter's article was a little too on target (he's a cypher) and I'm wondering if there will be a scandal concerning his assumed identity.

I said it before somewhere: I expect a major plotline this season will be the 1964 Surgeon General's report about the dangers of smoking. They are already setting that up with the remark about Lucky being 71% of their billings.

^that and the inevitable move into the spirit of the times as the 60s progressed. Many of the old boy agencies died as the times were a'changin

Excellent observation. Financial crisis or cash cow over this event?
