Here, in Norway, wool is linked to tradition. And thus we learn how to get dressed with wool, both for festivities and daywear, as well as taking care of it.

You would, for example, have a hard time watching cross country skiing in Holmenkollen without also witnessing a myriad of woollen sweaters, beanies, mittens and socks, in different patterns and colours. Often turning into a fyllefest (drunkparty), as well.

One can of course buy such items from companies like Devold and Husfliden, which more and more people do, but that takes away the history and labor of love often associated with it. But it's still quite common to either knit it yourself, or have someone gift something home-knitted (hjemmestrikka) to you.

These mittens are being sold by Bode for 230$! Insane.

And these were gifted to me by my mother-in-law, who also made sure to knit them to my size.

Good tradition.

good thread .

in the summer of 2010 esquire magazine published a roundup of MLB baseball deadline trades , handicapping the postseason . in that article the sf giants were dismissed out-of-hand for *only* bolstering their relief pitching with a couple of lefty specialists ; needless to say the sporting pundits at esquire were not impressed .

and to be fair , the giants offense was widely considered anemic . the team had been built around infield defense and stout pitching .

but that summer i was a believer , and so i decided to rebut that article ... with mojo .

i'd had the idea of a varsity cardigan , found a great *safety orange* yarn ( cotton-wool blend ) and knitted this up . fully fashioned .

it's funny to revisit as it is machine knit but involves quite a lot of handwork . IMGP6498.JPG
dat ribbing .

knitted-in rally pockets ! the buttonholes are original technique try to find them elsewhere .

that fall the san francisco giants would win the world series 4-1 over the texas rangers , their first chip since relocating to the west coast . tx coach ron washington would admit ' i didn't know they could pitch like that ' .
