I have not tried Lobb Paris. Manton has posted on his experience, which seems to take in pretty much all of the pros and cons.

This depends on where you live. For example, here in Russia customs office will charge you dearly for anything costing more than $300.

Xiaogou, I suggest you to invest some time in learning your country's customs regulations.

IIRC there was a thread that identified Lobb Paris as the "pinnacle of bespoke" so to speak. From pics they certainly look the most elegant to me but I've never seen any of these makers' shoes in real life. I also think in terms of price Lobb Paris > Lobb St. James but I could be wrong.

Edit: Found the thread here

Thank you for the link. I just read all 13 pages of it. If I wanted Lobb Paris bespoke, I can go to the store in Manhattan, correct? I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had 3 pairs of bespoke shoes!

You could always go around wearing shoes on your feet. Just a thought.

Excellent idea. I should have stated I only prefer black cap-toe oxford shoes and it would be kind of odd having three pairs of shoes with the same style. I recently got into brown but I feel akward wearing brown for some reason.

I called Lobb in NYC and they quoted me $5800 for bespoke. That is far more than Cleverley or Lobb St. James.

1) You could try a punch cap, just one strip of broguing on the toe seam.

2) The US prices went through the roof when the dollar was weak against the Euro. Now that the dollar has come back a bit, they have no interest in lowering US prices. But you may get a much better deal if you order in Euros in Paris. Be warned: you have to pick the shoes up there, however.

Certainly, with the Pound at $1.47 Cleverley or G&G are looking mighty attractive right now.

I believe that the price in Paris is around €4380, so it is about the same now as ordering in NYC (and it was actually more expensive to buy in Paris a few months ago).

Wow! I don't even know what to say. That is a lot for a pair of shoes, bespoke or not. $2000-3500 is my comfort range for bespoke shoes.

Bear in mind that the VAT rate in the UK has dropped from 17.5% to 15% very recently.
