For the best fitting 501's this is what I do. I have 3 blue STFs and 1 black STF (I work at Levi's so I can't wear anything else and I'm too cheap to buy LVC's).
Man, are you sure? They are supposed to shrink 10% which is roughly 3 inches on most sizes in the waist. How can you fit in it if it's already barely buttonable before shrink?
Man, are you sure?
Because they can't shrink smaller than your waist while you're wearing them. They stop at your body because, y'know, it's solid.
Also, it's 10% in the inseam. The shrink rates aren't the same for waist and inseam. I have never lost more than an inch in the waist on any non LVC. My LVC only lost MAYBE an 1.5 but I bought those well before I found this place and bothered to note such things.
The 1947 501's I bought shrank down way too much to be comfortable. They were a bit big when I bought them but after a soak the waist is super tight. I even tried to stretch them out but they didnt give much.
