Any opinions on chestnut and charcoal? I'm aware of the general consensus against the pairing; is there anyone who flouts this convention?

I'll be wearing the charcoal suit (peak lapel, gray and purple windowpane,) tomorrow night; my natural inclination is to wear black shoes; but...

I vote for a darker brown. And the rug is great.

I think we might need a full shot; the shoe pic makes the pants look much lighter than the other shows.

My only regard is that the shoes may look too...bright, with that particular suit. But I may be proven wrong by the inclusion of more pictures.

I'm leaning towards sensible black cap-toes for tomorrow, but if I pregame hard enough before I change for the evening I suppose I'll just throw caution to the wind.

A bit too eccentric for my blood. And this is coming from a guy who owns not one, but two pairs of light pink jeans.

A voice of reason. I'll go with the black shoes. The suit is enough of a statement. It's even double vented.

I mean, you certainly don't have to wear black. But if you go with a brown shoe, go with a darker shade than the one pictured in your first post.

My selection is a bit limited right now, as half my wardrobe is back on campus. The only shoes I have with a matching belt are the black and chestnut. I already had black in mind in the first place.

I'm going to ditch the burgundy square for white linen, also.

You're not going to a board meeting. You're not even going to work (even then I would find it acceptable). It's NYE. But if you don't feel comfortable pulling it off, then you shouldn't.

If it were during the day, I'd be all for it. But since it's at night, and on New Year's Eve no less, I say stick to the black.
