How to treat scuff marks after layer of cream polish & wax on leather?

Hi folks. I already tried looking through the forums, but couldn't find an answer to my question, so I made a separate thread.

When I take care of my dress shoes, I usually treat them with a layer of cream polish, followed by a coat of wax polish over the entire shoe + extra coats on the shoe cap to elevate the shine. What often happens after a few wears and commutes to and from the office, are light scuff marks around the heel of the shoes. What I sometimes do to treat that is adding a bit of shoe cream just around the area that's been scuffed, followed by a bit of wax polish around that same area to bring back the leather to its previous condition (unless the shoe is scuffed pretty badly, in which case I'll just cream polish and wax the entire shoe).

However, this does make me wonder if it's really OK to do so. While I haven't had any issues so far, my understanding is that you in fact shouldn't put cream polish on top of an already wax coated shoe since the leather won't be able to absorb it. If that is correct, does that mean I would need to strip the scuffed area of its wax coating + cream coating every single time (using Renovateur/Creme Delicate/Creme Universelle etc.) before applying the new coat of cream polish and wax? That honestly just sounds like overkill to me for some regular, light scuffing. But I'd love to hear what you guys think about this.

In my experience you'll be fine layering the paste and wax. In time you'll want to remove all the layers and start fresh; Saphir RenoMat is a good product for that.

Cheers for the reply. When you say in time, how long are you thinking? Once per year, or more/less?

Unless you have a really thick buildup of polish you can apply Renovateur any time. Just use a brush first to remove dirt and anything loose. A little bit of polish goes a long way, it shouldn't be building up a crust on the shoe.

OK. Except for the shoe cap, I only ever give the entire shoe one single coat of wax, so I guess Renovateur should suffice for the more regular upkeep. Thanks.
