How much do you tip taxi drivers?

I just round up and add like 2 bucks. More for an especially long ride (say from an airport). If I am really wasted and it's less than twenty it means he just made $20 bucks because I'm too lazy to get change.

If I'm expensing it I am usually using my CC so I'll just click the 15% thing.
If I'm paying cash and it's under a $10 ride and the fare is below the $X.50 mark I just round up to the nearest dollar. If it's more than that usually $1 + the change.

I didn't know anyone that gave 15% tips to drivers until they put it in and have a feeling that one of the ways they placated the drivers when they added machines was to put the defaults at 15 and 20 for them.

Yes and they still scoff when you use a card so my boss or I always say we'll leave them a good tip...since we're not paying for it.

$1 plus whatever change rounds up to the next dollar. For the airport, depends on my mood, but as much as $5.

I usually always use my CC (and always tip 20%), but when I pay cash it always seems as though the cabbie is caught off guard.

A question for those in NYC, or any other city where you can pay for a taxi ride with a CC: Do you find yourself taking taxis more often because you don't have to pay cash?

in DC you can use a CC but it's a pain ********** and it's discouraged. doesn't really change anything, I prefer to use cash becuase it's fast.

Didn't know there would be so much variance. I'm from LA, so I don't use taxi's often. As a general rule, I tip $2 or 20%, whichever is greater. I partially agree with the post above, rounding up to the nearest dollar doesn't really strike me as a tip.

I usually 'round up', ie: if it's an $8 ride, I'll do $10. Below $8 or so I usually try to do 20% ish, but I'm not quibbling over 20 cents.

Make up your mind. Is the tip included in the fare, or do you tip above what the ride costs?

What? The price that is charged as a fair is charged with the assumption that you will tip. If nobody tipped, the base price of the cab ride would cost more. That's why I say it's 'priced in'.
