Hmm, I guess it is all about the metric with which we use to judge our actions. I'm a practical kind of guy, so I think the real competition is who can eliminate the freeloader with the least amount of effort and cost. In a northern climate, I say ice water would probably win. Pepper spray is a good alternative for a generalized solution applicable to a variety of climates.
Whatever you do, don't cut out his vocal chords as you want him to be able to tell other bindlestiffs to stay away.
