Short
Need your guys help finding my next step in a career/degree. Current school cannot help me with even finding a mentor let alone giving advice on career path and the degree itself I think is most likely irrelevant.
Long
What I am interested in/would like to do in life:
Having grown up around antiques I am obsessed with quality and simplicity. As am I also obsessed with companies that match this outlook such as
Filson, Woolrich, Pendleton, Paul Stuart, Red Wing, Barbour, Harris Tweed, Nigel Cabourn and Ralph Lauren to name a few.
I do not want to design (as I have no skills in drawing, tailoring, etc), however, something such as creative direction for a big company within my interests or sourcing/buying textiles for a company does appeal to me.
Also interested in sourcing textiles for a living, or even becoming an agent/middle-man and sourcing/selling high quality items to smaller boutiques or something of the like.
Current Situation:
Currently attending school at DePaul University in Chicago with a Public relations/advertising degree, transferred to this school from a community college (2) quarters ago, have 1 1/2 to 2 years to go to graduate.
Why DePaul/this degree?
I felt that an art degree would be useless, especially since none of them seemed relevant at the time. Additionally I am pretty academic prone as I love economics, history, anthropology, critical thinking and general education and I knew that an art school would not provide such a diverse education.
However...
This degree/school feels utterly useless for what I want to do. My "wise" decision to take the academic/university route seems to be hindering me in obtaining further knowledge on quality, fabrics, textiles, general fashion knowledge (collars, cuts, history) to name a few things. Additionally there is no connections of any kind related to my career interests at DePaul (mentor, internships, knowledge).
Any guidance on what to do, or how to break into this career field would appreciated.
