Yer right, Yaletown Brewery doesn't have a maple ale IIRC. Their brown ale is excellent. I also had a seasonal ale there before... really strong, red Belgian ale that tasted too much like cough syrup.

Granville's maple ale excellent. Not too strong/fake of a flavour, but it's noticeable. Their Winter ale is my favourite. Strong vanilla/toffee flavours...almost like a root beer, except it'll get ya drunk.

What do they brew down in Costa Rica that's worth noting?

Damn, I wish there was a way to get a hold of that Granville while in the States. CR makes pretty average/sub-average beer. The two major national beers are Imperial and Pilsen which are both slightly sweeter versions of Molson. Can't touch the stuff. Rock Ice what I normally drink and even then it's a slight step above the normal crap. The good news is that they make a premium line called Bavaria with Light, Gold, and Dark variations that are all very drinkable. They came out with an anniversary edition a few months ago that was one of the best beers I've ever had (I'm holding on to a bottle as a souvenir). I got excited to hear that there was actually a microbrew in town. While they made five or six kinds of beers (ales, a stout, an IPA, a pilsen), they were sadly heavily watered down.

I write beer reviews for a website and constantly try new beers so my favorites change pretty often. At the moment, I'd have to say Chimay Blue, Goose Island IPA, and Great Lakes Blackout Stout. I've been really impressed by Avery's beers as well.

I drank Coors Light the other night because I was in the mood to drink a lot after dinner. It was good. I also had 4 Tecates during dinner at Xocimilco.
