Does your big toe wear out your shoes?

Rach, my issue with those threads is that then the useful information on the subject (e.g. on big toes) would be buried four pages deep in the thread in a day, basically the same as if someone had posted it in its own thread. When you search, you're forced to show results as posts, not threads, and additionally, you can't do a search by thread title, which is handy. I guess in the end, forums are threaded for a reason.

If you're suggesting there be a Q&A thread, with restricted posting, that would probably work better.

Good point. I was just trying to think of a good way to do, as you said, something that will make the search function more useful and less unwieldy.

I think you should consult with a shoemaker - he can tell you, if you need a bespoke last or not (most probably you do). Then you will never meet this problem again.

My big toe rubs through the sole before any other part of the sole wears out, but not the upper.

your big toe tip should never touch the roof of your shoe.

if it does, it could mean your shoes are too small, your toenails are too long, or your toe is abnormally long.

is your big toe longer than your second toe? mine are about even.

you might be wearing the wrong size, you might need a larger number size in a narrower width. i.e. if you are wearing a 10D with this problem, try a 10.5 C

I just needed a quick answer (which I got- adhesive moleskin), not looking to start a long term discussion. And it does seem other members toes wear out their shoes, more so the little toe. I was curious to see if I am wearing my shoes wrong, as they do not feel tight or hurt, and half a size larger is too big. The other solution would be switch to Square toe shoes, which I would prefer not to do

Yes, I have that exact same problem on both feet. I have another problem with one of my feet and I'm going to ask the doctor why this is so. It just started to happen when I turned 36 I believe, and that was 4 years ago.

I got the same problem. I started to notice it in my Vans shoes. Sizing up WILL NOT help! Every other toe sits perfectly, but the big toe is just "standing up".

Sizing up will just make the shoe longer, not actually the "height" inside wear your toes sit.

The problem is how you walk. I used to have this problem and discovered that if I changed how my foot positioned as I walked the hole would not happen. After 20 or so years of no holes, one began again. I stopped my habit of pulling with my forward foot and changed to pushing with my back foot. Not only toes my big toe stay down, I also walk faster.
