I really like Longines for a number of reasons, personal and because of quality. THe tough part is that the one I have had my eye on is close to a Panerai Marina, another favorite.
It is extreme. While your statement regarding Longines are at their best, etc. is merely an opinion, I have to agree that their simple designs are very striking. I happen to like a plethora of hands as I think if you can get more complication-bang for buck, why not go for it. I'm also a huge chrono guy which is in line with my attraction towards the busier dials.
