So, my question is, are Chucks one of those unimpeachable classics no matter how ubiquitous they become? I mean, they've always been around and always will be, and kind of cut across boundaries: hipster, tragically unhip nerd, jock, prep, fashionista, middle-aged guy, etc. However, I feel as though they've become more closely identified with wannabe punk-rock hipsters since around the time Hot Topic began selling Ramones tees; let's date that to around 2000, and blame it on the Strokes - although to be fair, I guess you could argue it was Nirvana a decade earlier, or maybe...okay, I guess I've sort of answered my own question here.
Dunks are a different story, as they're about 70 years younger than Chucks, but among a certain set they're also nearly as ubiquitous (or have I been stealing too many glances at the other SF or, god forbid, Hypebeast?).
Are either of these ever in danger of becoming played out?
