Agreed. Again, though, this ain't about Old Navy. This ain't an ON bashing or loving thread. Stick to the subject, please.

Cheap Chic in my mind implies one of two things or possibly both.

1) the actual item is relatively inexpensive to like products
2) the quality of the product isn't as good as like products

H&M as stated before and Gap seem to fit this category while H&M is the epitome of cheap chic imo.

I for one have always enjoyed blending nicer (more expensive) classic pieces with trendier (but still well fititng) inexpensive pieces from places like Uniqlo, H&M,

I still get a ton of mileage of an three season old $40 brown linen blazer from H&M that I often pair with a borrelli m2m shirt, and C&J weymouths.

I think the contrast in brands also creates more of a personal style - vs. just wearing 3 same season items from etro (as a good friend tends to do) or elsewhere.

Precisely, something some people will never be able to grasp.

A $30 shirt under a $500 sweater provides no more personal style than a $300 shirt under a $500 sweater. The only benefit to mixing is that you might not have had $800 to spend.

I wouldn't really agree that there is anything inherently wrong with sticking to the same brand either, its just limiting in terms of options.

I tend to stick with the same brand (yes, BR) because of a decent price:quality ratio, it's easy to find, and it freakin' fits skinny people unlike 98% of the men's clothes to be found near where I live. That said, I'm certainly not exclusive.

to answer the OP's question,

try H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, all are relatively inexpensive and can be picked up on sale. Levi's are moderately priced and a solid choice as well. And as always, check the B/S forum and SuFu marketplace. People really let things go for a lot less than retail, APC's for 60 for example. Take advantage.

good thread/discussion.

Gap Japan makes nice khakis/chinos in their "extra slim cut" model. I've heard the American Gap does not produce this style, however.

The fitted BR t-shirts (both short and long sleeve) fit really well and they're still really cheap.
