Will a good cobbler put a new buckle on a monk strap? Anyone done this? I have an old pair of Ferragamo's I'm trying to bring back from the dead and they have a pathetic gold-colored buckle I'd like to replace with silver hardware....thanks.

Mine couldn't find the correct hardware. He wanted me to order it, which didn't seem possible at the time.

Id also like to do this, have been looking for nice sterling silver buckles since seeing Stefano Bemers 201

In it self, changing the buckle isn not a problem, finding a bucle YOU want is more of an issue

If you bring them in to a Ferragamo store, then they should be able to send them out to be repaired. Not entirely sure about what the cost would be, however.

I've got a cobbler who says he can do it. No problem - he's done more refined work on purses that my wife has. It's the acquisition of a good buckle that's the rate-limiting step.

It's probably the same as a watch buckle.

In which case you need a watch band tool.

Possible that a watch buckle could work, but if so, unlikely you'll need the watch band tool. On my monkstraps, the buckle is either attached to elastic or leather, which is stitched in place.

I'm not sure a watch buckle (presumably, the type that goes with a leather strap) would work, although offhand, I can't see why not.

A good cobbler can and will do it, ofcourse. (Cant remember the price but around $20 or less)
My own cobbler has changed monk buckles for me twice.
Amazing how changing a small thing like a buckle can make the shoes look new all over again.
Find a cobbler that repairs womens handbags (most do) as well as shoes. Those are the ones with the experience of fiddling with buckles, and they probably have some plastic basket filled with buckles for you to choose from too! Please take some 'before & after' pics for us!
