Who is the best tailor to take jeans to in LA for alterations? I just need them shortened, but I want the best possible looking hems, whether they make new hems or use the originals, I'm not sure which is in vogue at the moment. Who would I go to? As far as area of the city and price, I am very open.

I've taken several pairs to be altered at a tailor on Sunset near Normandie. This guy does a lot of custom work, primarily for wedding attire, but is extremely knowledgeable/reliable. He's done frankenhems on at least a pair or two for about $5-10?

If you're really interested, I'll get you the contact info.

Denim Doctors on 3rd st? Never used em, or been there, but have heard good things. There's a cleaner/alteration place in Pasadena on Lake Ave, just north of California (across from Burger Continental) that has a sign advertising they specialize in hemming denim keeping the original hem. But again, never used them.

I think the real Denim Doctors are now apart of HTC on Beverly. I'd probably trust them to do the work, considering the kind of stuff HTC sells.

Not to start another Pas food hijack, but man I miss the vibe at BC. Service is usually horrible but the atmosphere makes up for it in dividends. Also miss apple pie ala mode from Pie 'n' Burger.

i would avoid that place on 3rd. it's now called denim revival. i had them hem my jeans and specifically requested chain stitching and also requested to have the excess fabric preserved (for future repair work). of course they jeans weren't hemmed correctly because they just used a regular single stitch and the excess fabric was thrown away. i will never go there again.

denim doctors on beverly and martel are excellent. they hemmed my jeans perfectly and also remembered to keep the extra fabric. i highly recommend them and their service is fast and friendly.

Always good to learn of some good tailors in the LA area... but does anyone know of any quality tailoring places in the southland? (read:Orange County)

When denim doctors was on 3rd street I had one good and one bad experience there.

I've since been going to Dr. Blue Jeanns on Van Nuys in Sherman Oaks. He's done some amazing stuff for me including two crotch patch jobs, taking in the waist on a pair of jeans, and even making belt loops on a pair of trousers with the leftover hems.

Not sure if he chainstitches, but I would think so.

I highly recommend HTC (aka Denim Doctors) on Beverly. I took both my 5EPs (straight & LDB) to have them hemmed. They chainstitched my jeans and am very happy with the results. Also, the service was great.
