Barneys called about an order, what should I do?

I ordered a pair of Fiorentini+Baker boots. A few days later I got an email saying they were out of stock and canceling the order.

Today I got a call from a guy from Las Vegas saying that he has the shoes in the size I ordered, and that he works for Barneys, and he can send them.

I'm a bit suspicious because he only had my phone number but NONE of the billing, shipping, or payment information. He said his name is David. Does anyone have experience with Barneys and out of stock items being offered like this on the phone?

tell him you'd be happy to pay Barneys to have him ship you the boots. I wouldn't go directly through him.

Why dont you call the Barney's number listed on the site and ask them?

Get a return number, confirm that it is a Barney's # (either by calling their 800# or Google), then call him back and order the shoes.

Contacting Barneys was the general idea of the suggestions, so I followed the direction your advice.

They said that all the stores receive a copy of the email sent to each customer stating that the item they ordered is out of stock. This is so that the stores can offer the item to the customer if they have it.

They gave me the phone number of the Barneys in LV. It was the same as the one that called me earlier.

So it's legit.
