Value is all in your perception. Many men (by which I mean the vast majority) would think that paying $250 for a pair of shoes is not good value, when they can buy shoes that do the same damn thing for $80 from the Myer sales. Because someone has told you that Loake shoes are good quality, you are now prepared to pay $250 for them and think you are ahead - but only because you value certain characteristics in your shoes (Goodyear welting, better quality leather), and perceive that as "better" than a pair of Indian made, glued sole shoes.
Other people don't have the same set of values for shoes or jackets or any number of things. For most people a jacket is just an extra layer to keep the cold out. They don't care about surgeon's cuffs or hand sewn buttonholes. The fact that you are prepared to pay a certain amount for these things is a reflection on you, not the article itself. Any given item may have a million values placed upon it by a million individuals (or one individual a million times), but it's still the same item.

+1

Could not have said it better myself. Just because Ethan says so does not make it so. It is very easy to reframe things to suit your point. Judging by the number of people here who are in the legal profession, the irony is quite exquisite.

Honest to God, the last 3-4 pages have been a back and fourth between "Hmm $350... should I spend it or not?"

It's $350, unless you don't have a job then why are you so worried? You can't have everything dude, just make a choice.

Very nice - just write down everything your after with this suit, what you plan to use it for, etc. and Tom will bring out the fabrics he thinks are suitable. You can choose the lining and buttons as well.

It's a hell of a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to hearing what you decided on.

Can someone recommend a good place to buy some slim fitting chinos/khakis in Melbourne in a range of colours? dont want to take the risk online and find out the fit poorly.

Ta. I want a "lighter" charcoal, up to something like this

or even

Not too fussy. Just on the darker side of grey with some texture. I'm sure they will have a lot of interesting options.
Also must breathe quite easily since I get hot (should I opt for 3/4 or half lined perhaps?).
yeah probably dont ask for charcoal then... usually that ends up with the almost black varieties of grey. :) 1/2 or 1/4 lining are good options. Also look at the weight and openness of weave of the fabric that'll heap you breath.

If you have jeans/pants from common brands that we may be familiar with im happy to help you re: fit on ours.

Stealing this post from the C&J thread since it saves me typing. Basically you can get a pair of Church's delivered for about $280. If you can go for the Black Calf over the Black polished. Not entirely sure on the fit of the 73 Last compared to others, maybe PoP or someone else who owns Church's could comment. Otherwise contact Herring directly.

I have two pairs (of Church's) in calf which I am very happy with...this deal makes me think it might be worth getting a pair of black shoes with brogueing and get the double monks in brown or suede (that would please PoP and fxh.....wait did someone say people are over analysising their purchases).

As far ordering from Herring goes I have found them extremely helpful, very fast at answering questions and the delivery time is only a couple of days. Recommended (also if you do a search or ask nicely here I think there is a shoe tree offer too).

Know this is the C&J thread but if you are in the market for solid Northampton made benchgrade business styles, Herring Shoes are selling off all of their Church 73 lasted shoes at a significant discount.

RRP of 355GBP (not a realistic price for these IMO) but with the code HSLAST73 a decent 45% off models like Brisbane (equivalent current 173 last model is called Chetwynd), and Perth (current model Diplomat).

There are some monks, balmorals and a loafer as well in different coloured regular calf, polished binder and suede. Availability in sizes and widths varies but you can search here:

Unfortunately not! I basically sold everything I owned at the end of last year and went travelling. I am now due back in Australia in a week and I have to build a new wardrobe.

That's a ripping deal on the Church's. Would love to hear from someone on how the 73 Last fits.
