Thanks for all the replies and advice everyone, really, really appreciate it! I will indeed continue to try on OTR items and if I find one that fits well, I'll go down that route. But like you said, being in Perth, selection is limited and an OTR Canali/Zegna goes for considerably more than a tailored option mentioned below.

I've been in contact with P Johnson and their prices do indeed seem quite attractive. Plus they seem well regarded on these forums, which is comforting. Tom (from the Melbourne branch) may be heading to Perth in a month or two, which would mean I'd only need one trip down to Melbourne for the 2nd fitting, which would be easy enough. So that's definitely an option I'm leaning toward.

Other option is that I also was in contact with Gordon Yao (HK) who said that he can have 3 fittings done in 4 days and then the suit sent to Australia a month later. His prices are very good for a fully bespoke service ($1630aud for a tuxedo in VBC 110g, more if choosing a higher end fabric). This is an option because I'll be in Singapore late July so could pop to HK for $200 return or so to get the fittings done, although obviously accommodation is a cost.

So I've narrowed it down to these 2 options - thoughts? Will keep you all updated

This is not a question that is ideally answered in the Australian Members thread. It is also a question that probably does not have a definite answer. It depends on the taste and style of the wearer.

Just curious - statistically, what is the most common suit size for chaps? Anyone have a clue?

^^^ Depends on the brand and location I reckon as they dictate what sort of customers purchase their suits. When I was having a chat at Herringbone Collins Street, it appears the more popular sizes are between 38 and 42 as they are less likely to show up at the warehouse sales.

Judging by how hard it is to find a size 36R at the sales, maybe the smaller sizes are more common...

or maybe they just dont stock as many of the smaller ones??

Get ready for sticker shock. They have a kiosk in DJs up here and from what I have seen they are very dear.

I bought some Pink's stuff in London late last century and I remember that they were actually pretty good value and they lasted really well. I don't know what their shirts sell for in the UK, but I suspect we are getting the rough end of the pineapple.
