Are High Price Shaving Creams Really Worth It?

If they are made by Taylors, they are not made to the exact same formulation as the creams sold under the Taylors label, as they don't smell the same. I don't think there is a tremendous amount of difference in terms of how they lather.

If you enjoy the lemon fragrance, AoS lemon cream is excellent. One of my favorites next to Trumper's almond, which is what I've been using for the past couple of months.

The AoS shave cream seems to last a very long time - I am going on a year from one container. I use their "dip two fingers" method outlined on their site.

At that rate $22.00 seems like a pretty good deal. However, their lavendar balm is quite expensive at $38.00 and doesnt seem to last as long.

Anyone know of a good source for Taylor's (in the US)?

Also, when using a shave soap do you lather on the soap with a brush or skip the brush altogether. (See: http://www.highlandmenscare.com/tayl...oden-bowl.html)

I lather on my face, once I have enough soap/cream on the brush. I don't like the bowl since it's an extra step and something else to wash/rinse/dry/store/break.

You can't use soap effectively without a brush.

I've been using some Santa Maria Novella products for two weeks now, the before/after shaving cream, the shaving cream and an after shave lotion for sensitive skin. They're more expensive than the brands I've used before but definitely worth the money. My skin looks and feels much better after shaving.

This is a really good shaving gel. King of Shave also has a great lubricating oil but it's not as easy to find.

Kiehl's Brushless Shave cream is excellent as well.

I would say yes, but only if you value scent. Most drug store brands simply do not smell as good as the high end english creams.

I use edge gel and pretty happy with it. I've used Kiehl's, Jack Black, King of Shaves, Anthony, but don't they show me any incremental benefit over edge gel. Personal preference.

Make your own high end shaving soap for pennies!

Simply buy some Surrey aka Van der Hagen shaving soap from the drug store, and a bottle of glycerin.

Chop the Van der Hagen soap (I like the 'deluxe' myself) into cubes, and place into an 8 oz ziplock container, then microwave for 15 seconds, or more if needed to melt it, but don't overheat. Stir in 1 teaspoon of liquid vegetable glycerin, then let harden.

Wallah, you have a puck of shaving soap that will perform just as good or better than any fancy soap or cream you can buy!

Add essential oils if you care about scent.
