I just bought a pair of R.M. Williams Craftsman boots from Orvis at 50% off their original price of $350, less a 20% off coupon I had from them, so $140 +shipping and taxes. Not sure what sizes are left, but its worth checking as they are significantly cheaper than ordering from Australia.

From the Orvis Web site? I don't see them there.

What is the fit like on RM Williams boots? Are they true to size or do you go up/down a half or whole size? Are they comfortable?

Sator, thanks for your extensive post, including the sizing information.

Soph, I think my first pair of Williams chelseas will be black. I know it's boring, but I already own brown boots, including brown chelsea boots.

It's a good price. Too bad they don't have wide widths...

Some sizes are still available. Unfortunately, they no longer have my size, a US 12.

These are my newest -- and now favorite -- ankle boots... button shoes. I had to go to Vienna to get them! This shoemaker has made the same model shoe continually since 1912.

Ben Silver has carried R.M. Williams boots for years. Available through their catalog. Perhaps online too.

I have a pair of RM Williams French Veil Calf Craftsman in Chestnut and love them. They are extremely comfortable, attractive, versatile, well-made shoes.

I ordered mine from Boots Online and I would highly recommend them. Even if you factor in international shipping and currency conversion fee they're about $50-$150 cheaper than retail in the United States. Shipping was quicker than I expected too: It took about a week to get them from Australia to Chicago.

Back to the shoes: be aware the Veil Calf leather is somewhat delicate. I was helping my father move some furniture and managed to scrape the surface layer off a tiny portion of my left boot

. It now has a 20mm by 3mm scar that's been polished over, but still noticeable upon closer inspection. It gave the boots a bit of character but as a matter of personal taste I would have preferred the leather to remain immaculate.

Speaking of which, if anyone has any leather tear/scratch repair advice or information I'd love to know.

I just noticed that RM Williams makes a buckle-strap ankle boot. Anyone own a pair? Are they as nice as they look on the Williams Web site?
