Alden shoes are boring, heavy and overpriced. I'd never get another pair again. Even if I was a 15A, I wouldn't waste my money! Thx for the tip though.

I have a pair of those I bougth from STP in brown a few years ago, and while they are far from sleek, they are a terrific staple shoe. I wear them with jeans on the day a heavier shoe is needed -- winter, slush, etc. In summer your feet would melt. On the other side, I think they could stop a bullet.

I happen to have the same opinion of John Lobb and EG shoes, except the "heavy" part. Instead I think them "insubstantial" and would add a "very" to the "overpriced."

Oh well, to each his own opinion.

I generally love Alden shoes. These, not so much (especially in black).

Well, they don't look any different than the other English offerings from C&J, Grenson...etc.

If I wear a pair of Lobb Prestige now, would they allow me to outrun or deftly avoid the condemnatory arrows sure to be fired at my direction?

On a serious note though, I own all the brands you mentioned and absolutely disagree with your assessment. Do you own a pair of JL (prestige or not) or have you tried a pair on?
