"We couldn't see It , but we created, a place between truth and overrated"
Thousand Foot Krutch
This forum is a wonderful place to find great info on shoes, etc. But.............
Often I see threads pop up where people talk about how they are just starting out in business and they need to dress up for work. People help them with fit etc. but often lead them down trails of spending $300 on a shirt in order for it to have nicer buttons. I can tell you this, unlike shoes, no shirt is worth $300 for the buttons.
The truth: The most important thing in a shirt is the fit. Even low quality shirts can last many years if they aren't non-iron.
Overrated: Buying a $300 dollar shirt, that many still wear undershirts with, for the more comfortable fabric and nicer buttons.
Often I see threads about how only should buy conservative outfits.
The truth: The most import thing when starting a business wardrobe is buying versatile items. This is great advice, but at what point should people try to acquire some individuality with what they wear vs. being a minion. There is nothing wrong with standing out if you can own it. These conservative people probably name their kinds Jon and Eric in order to follow the crowd. There is nothing wrong with being unique, in fact being unique is amazing and try to tell my kids that everyday. I don't need them following the crowd and drinking a ton just as I don't feel Menswear can be explained in x, y, and z. NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO DRESS LIKE AN OLD MAN
Overrated: Buying only shirts in very simple pattern. Very few people wear coats all day and there is no need for you too look so boring if you take off your coat to run to the bathroom. Blue and white are not the only two colors that look good.
Anyone have any feelings like this? It is very hard to weed through the group think to come up with the truth around here.
