Made in Switzerland is generally on par with Italian made ones. I think the same goes for Spain, but someone should chip in as I have no Maid in Spain Zegna.

Managed to piece this suit together at my local Sally Ann. It was $14 total. Found the jacket and suspected the pants would be somewhere. Luckily, they were, and they were my size.

I'm a n00b at this, so I have a few questions.

The suit is a Coppley for Harry Rosen. How good is this? Also, I did the lip test and the buttons felt cool, but the colour doesn't seem like something that would come from nature. Could these be natural buttons or are they likely plastic?

Is this what they call pick stitching? Can this only be done by hand? Is it generally a sign of quality?

hey, i can be semi-useful at this:

harry rosen is a high-end canadian men's fashion store. they have big famous stores in toronto and throughout the country. i would guess that their store is sort of at the neimann-marcus level? others can correct me.

Yes, it's pick stitching. It can be done by machine or by hand, so it's not generally a sign of quality - the fact the buttonhole is machine-sewn suggests to me the garment is entirely machine-made.

One of the tell-tale signs of machine pick-stitching is that the thread running between the pick stitches is visible on the back of the lapel and is perfectly spaced and straight.

I'm sure they are horn, maybe even treated ivory. A suit of that caliber can have no less.

Yup. That's pick-stitching, and it is always a sign of the highest quality. ALWAYS. Again, nice score!

Sweet. I know Harry Rosen is a fairly high end suit retailer, although I think they still sell shittier suits as well as higher quality ones; but correct me if I'm wrong. Nice to know the Coppley is decently high quality.

I know these aren't fantastic finds but I found it amusing some guy who donates loves paisley that much. FYI from top to bottom: Cassini, Oscar de la renta, more Oscar, a no name, and countess Mara. I gotta find a decent suit. Thrifty rehearsal suit would be heaven sent.

Picked up an Armani Black label sportscoat in my size, as well as a crazy Brioni tie. Passed on a recent zegna shirt, a Brioni suit and some other goodies. If anyone is interested, the Brioni was 40s, black with black stripes and DB. It's $75.

encounter with Thrift Nemesis -- a.k.a. Evil J. Kissi -- today -- and things did not go well. I'm pretty sure he lifted a shiny-beautiful Thomas Pink dress shirt from my cart as I turned my attention, momentarily, to the dressing room mirror. Payback, I suppose, for last weekend's Salvation Army Round, where I guessed the Charvet rack and left Thrift Nemesis cursing amid a flurry of Claybrook and dust.

C'est la vie. Thrift Nemesis, we will meet again.

P.S. Forget the suit, I'm interested in Zegna shirts that would fit a s/m/15-15.5...
