Hell yeah, old ugly crap should stay there. Although how does one define ugly? In some peoples minds a Hermes Print or Versace silk shirt is fugly. To others it is a work of art. I am probably the most anti early mid 90's and 80's here (I actually only like Versace from this period). Real old vintage, I would certainly pick up. I would even pick up a mink gown worn by Countess Bathory .

The signal to noise ratio is way out of whack now.

Consignment is another funny one. Offer $250 for a used piece, fellow says his consigner can get him $450 on eBay. I tell him that if there is a 50/50 split, he would still be making more off my $250. Nope he is not interested. Then....... Badabing ....... it sells on eBay for $320. 320 was too much change for me to go bidding, but after eBay fees and postage costs deducted and the 50/50 split, he probably took home $140 for this. My $250 straight up vs $140, I wonder..........

People here should be more open to offers. It is far easier to deal with a homey on this thread versus dealing with the unknown on eBay..............

+1, I'm dealing first-hand right now with a great example of eBay buyer douchebaggery (on an item that, to be fair, I offered to proxy here first, but got no takers).

Now that I have semi-steady work and am not relying on thrifting to pay the bills, I intend to make a lot more of the stuff I find available to the regulars here. The nice, classic stuff, that is. Skeet blankets stay on the bay.

Here's my items from today. I did have a full photo of it but my .5 MP cell phone camera made it look like a black blob. It was a stunning navy pinstripe suit jacket. Loads of pick stitching. Side vented. Zegna 15 milmil 15 fabric. Made in 2007. No pants.

Oh I know! It was amazing in person. Those photos were taken a week ago at a discount store. Forgot them on my phone. Today I found out the store had a 90% all outerwear sale. The jacket was long gone.

You're right, more people leads to more/better finds. Naturally we get desensitized to certain labels, though I'd certainly be excited to find any number of them. I think I know the jacket you're talking about - I saw it on my phone and thought it would be quoted 5 times, but nothing else had been mentioned!

Man, you don't eve know! My friends or co-workers would tell me they got a certain piece _______ (insert brand name) at a certain store at a certain discount. I feel the urge to brag about my super high end mens wear pieces I've found on the cheap.

if only others were as good as you at doing your research. i (and i know a lot of others) have stopped PM'ing people about their "available" finds due to the stupid prices being asked. i'm not even talking about "oh he wants ebay prices for his finds." i'm talking about "this guy have no idea how much that thing is worth on ebay, he hasn't even done his homework" type of prices. i got tired of "sure that sportcoat is available, how does $150 sound?" for something that only goes for $75 on ebay. worse still is when someone is going to CONSIGN their finds. after ebay, consignment fees, etc, a lot of times the price i was happy to pay would actually exceed the person's likely take-home.

I've yet to experience this cuz most of the time, the measurements don't work on me to get to price negotiation.

EDIT: Oh, yeah. Having now handled my first Kiton shirt, I feel qualified to weigh in on the Great Shirt Debate of 2013. I've now handled most of what I think of as the major biggies: Kiton, Charvet, Borrelli, Barba, Isaia, Finamore, Cucinelli, Barbera, T&A, etc. etc I would say, the one I was most impressed with was Charvet, but it wasn't a runaway. And that may have been influenced by how NEW it was. Thing was brand new. What did I like? The feel was great, construction was excellent (though less of the handwork flourishes like stitching at the terminus of the cuff **** or at random spots along the button line). Nor was the gusset nearly as elaborate. But it just struck me as one of the nicest, most impressively professional shirts I'd ever held. Now, for workmanship, the Neopolitains have it hands down. The Kiton is at least on a par with the Barba and the Finamore, and only a hair above the Cucinelli and some of the better Borrellis. Fabric selection depends on the shirt, but is a fair match across the board. Cut is hard to judge because today's Kitten is too small for me (Sadly). To answer Klobber's question more directly, the biggest difference between these titans and Thomas Pink or other less revered brands is collar cut (well, and button materials, of course). The Neapolitains -- and T&A, unlike many of its Jermyn Street brethren -- cuts their collars full enough, even in a spread collar, that the collar can extend under the jacket lapels. While that's not what you see on TV these days, it looks a LOT better. Anyway, just my random observations.

I mean I love hooking up homeys on the thread and love trades, but I rack up items so quickly, it is often easier sending in bulk to a consigner I will make a modest return off of even if I won't get top dollar. also it is annoying to get 300000 pms on things most from lurkers I prefer to do business just in my small network of trusted trade partners.

Or, you can do what I do...Hoard all this stuff in the bedroom to the point, we've now moved out of there and I have no idea what I have in there...

Trades have slowly fell off the radar - mainly because of one simple fact: There is a huge discrepancy between the finds of the few and the finds of the many. Only a few here actually strike it big time with desirable goods, most of us find stuff very occasionally and thus would be unable to have a significant trade list in the first place.
