I just received this photo from the coordinator of the "Unified Pride" project (someone posted a link a few days back). I recognise it from a book I leafed through at a friend's house a couple of years ago. It's a photobook of images from the 1970s. This particular one is from 1970, and is of a couple of skinheads outside a pub. No idea about the copyright, but it's a pic I've been looking for for quite some time.

I might be writing a short piece for the Unified Pride book; the hope is that it will provide some publicity for our 'project' on the 'class of 68/69', whether that turns out to be a book, a web site, or whatever.

Great pics, Bunty.

I was especially interested in the picture from Skeggy taken in 1967 that depicts a v neck being worn with nothing under it. I used to do this in 1968 - it was a holiday look - at Brighton. I did not realise it was so universal. I bet these are M&S botany wool numbers. Light enough to make this work. Anyone else do this?

Fantastic stuff.

So many of the pics show pints of dark coloured beer in a dimpled mug. How things have changed so quickly.....

The other thing that struck me is the total absence of what we now call 'bling'. It was a pared back look for men and women, the strength of which relied on a few well-chosen pieces with no adornment needed.

So you guys did wear Harrington J's with jeans(guy on the right
happy.gif
). Idk why that's the only pic so I wondered. The guy with the Harrington, doesn't he come out in a skinhead video where the coppers take him away? Also, Isn't the guy with the sheep skin this guy from the skinhead revolt cover(1st one from the left)?:

That little part is of the documentary about London Kilburn Skinheads, Phoenix Youth Club 1969, The lad talking in the white Ben Sherman is my mate Dave Nickelson, If you look at the dance floor the Skinhead girl in the front is Noreen Linnane, behind her is her sister Briget, I still see Noreen, the lad with her is Tony Francis, one of the Hendon Mob, the Black lad is Everton..also Hendon. the smart Skinhead girl to the left is Susan English one of the best looking Girls in Kilburn. Around the dance floor is Pat Nugent, Phil Hayes, Marc Jacobs, Mike Keyo, Jimmy Garret, Bill O Marnie, That night the BBC paid for a live Reggae band, cant remember the name, Their was a few hundred of us that night, also off camera is around 30 Black Rudies, One of them was my mates Cousin Lenny Vincent, the smartest lad in Kilburn. The original documentary was 40 mins long, for years it was repeated on BBC Schools, The Brummie girl with the glasses is nothing to do with the original documentary, must be from something else. Many of us decided to keep out of the Camara, The Police at the time was also in that programme giving their opinions about Kilburn Skinheads. Before this documentary a American TV Station also did a documentary about us kilburn Skinheads

any idea if either documentary aired in full, and not just short snippets? would be amazing to see that original raw footage

Of course we would never had seen the American programme, The Kilburn documentary was shown in full for about five years repeated on BBC Schools TV, As you see Dave going on, Seconds before that they Interviewed a older Skinhead Charlie V, He had a massive cut down his face, and he was talking about it,

Re Harringtons and jeans, yes we did, as I mentioned before. The Harrington simply replaced the monkey/surfer jacket.

You could be right about thy bloke in the sheepskin. I look at that photo and think that if he had his Sta-Prest hoiked up any higher he'd be singing soprano!
