They have a big sale at amazon. trying to decide b/w

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg.../-/B00103BZS2/ in black -Modano

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001045EJC -Soho
I like the black and cognac but I primarily (at this point) wear black pants to work so I don't think cognac would really fit with that.

which is a better buy? I would primarily wear these to work or occasionally out.
I was also able to actually try the modano's and liked. Don't know how the Sohos look IRL.

any advice is much appreciated.

The Sohos are a better value.

Be sure to call Amazon's 1-800 number and tell them to credit your account if you order them because they should be an extra 20% off which is not showing up.

The soho's are on a last that is more pointed and chiseled, the PA's are on a more rounded/blunt last.

Ordered the Soho in Cognac - good deal at $175 with free shipping. I'm not the biggest AE fan - in fact, this will be my first pair of AEs - but this last does seem more elongated and elegant than their others, as noted above.

Will post comments once I get 'em.

And what's the deal with the extra 20% off??? Isn't that already built into the price?

+1 - This is one of the few AE shoes that I didn't mind. It actually looks pretty good. It looks even better if you get "real" pictures on a google search.

Here is a pic I took a while back of the cognac Soho's. Shows a pretty good view of the shape.

Is the shape similar to the C&J Hallam? Looks like a nice shoe, stylish and much more versatile than the Modano.

I think the curves are not as refined as the C&J Hallam. The edges at the toe are more abrupt on the Soho.

The Soho is the first Allen Edmonds shoe (calf skin) that I've seen and considered paying full retail because of the shape. I think at 175 its definately worth buying if you need a cap-toe bal.

No. The 20% off is supposed to stack on all "sale" shoes sold direct from Amazon.com. You'll need to call the number above to get an adjustment if you care about the extra 20%.

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered the black Soho as I already have the cognac. The 9D was not available so I took a bit of a risk and ordered an 8.5D; I think it should work.

I called the number provided above immediately after my order and they were able to change the amount billed to my card as the transaction doesn't go through until the item is shipped.

Again, thanks for the great deal guys...
