Where to kop Ambrosi?

Well, he is based in Naples. But you might want to read up on him first. There are several threads about him and the experiences of SF members ordering and getting pants. Lets just say there can be loooooooooooooong delays.

However, I just had a fitting for a suit from Mina and I thought the pants were equal in construction and fit. I would order from her. She comes to NY, Boston and SF.

Not really my shoes - but a sweet pair of Alden's which are unfortunately, at least a 1/2 size too large. (Even in heavy wool socks (Pantherella) I can make the lacings meet completely and, as you can see there is a slight ripple from front to back at the base of the lacings indicating they are a smidge wide.)

Too bad, as these Alden Shell shoes are AMAZING in real life.

JhCam8, please provide your thoughts about the floorcovering, as it seems to be your main area of interest.

Start now and you may get a pair before 2020. :)

Yes, thanks - after I posted I recalled that this had been discussed and looked it up. Maybe you can just send yours over? :D

Beautiful shoes, G - have you tried an insole to take up some of the volume?

The carpet is a welcome change from your usual sole scuffer - and you've matched the shoes, socks, and slacks with it very well, if I may say so (although a bit more purple in the socks wouldn't hurt!).

All right, you sock-rockers,

I am working my way through this thread from start to finish. I'm on about page 50, getting through about 30 pages a day.

So I'm still going to read the whole thread, but I already know I have to get on board. I need to get started buying some socks like I am seeing here.

Since I don't know anything about buying dress socks, I started searching sites using keywords like Pantherella and Vannucci, etc.

After duffing around for a bit, I've got to ask some basic questions to the sock gods.

1. I'm seeing a lot of "over-the-calf" sockage for sale out there. Since all of these fabulous pics don't show much above the ankle, what is the length of the socks
that you guys are working with in these pics? Are these over-the-calf? Is over-the-calf to be avoided or preferred?

2. What's the best way to buy these? Are certain stores or online retailers famous for over-the-top semi annual sales where one can pretty much build an instant starter collection?
Is there a go-to site which you think is the best online sock retailer?

3. Could someone take 60 seconds and add some great brand names to Pantherella, Vannucci...to assist in the hunting?

4. If these socks aren't over-the-calf, are they always falling down/bunching up? Do some materials/brands bunch and others don't?

I'd appreciate some straight talk.

Thanks,
ccm

There is much love for OTC on the forum, but I personally do not like them at all. I grew up with calf length, and love as such.

As far as other brands, I pretty much stick to Pantherella, but have been creeping up on Marcoliani lately, have a few Gallos that I love, and would like to try Falke.

Thanks Spoo!

Do the quality socks manage to stay up most of the day when they are calf length? Or does one have to pull them up every 30min?

I rarely have to adjust them, I think I own 75 calf length socks, and 3 OTCs. I just hate the way they feel, and my pants always get "stuck" on them.

Sock it to yourself - (sorry)

Very nice selection - that's the way to buy socks!
