Does a 38R need/want an Oxxford suit?

Hi, all. I happened to see a tremendous Oxxford suit today. A three season weight Manhattan II model (two button, single vent, natural shoulders). The fabric was a Super 120s in a sort of salt and pepper color, with the overall effect being mid-grey. It then had very subtle french blue pinstripes about 3/4" running through it. Pretty sweet. NWTs, though the sleeves had already been finished with kissing buttons.

Based on my own Oxxford suit, the measurements would be : Chest 41, Waist 39, Shoulder 18.5, Length, 32.25, Sleeve 24.5 (no faux buttonholes, so easy sleeve alteration).

Anyways, I didn't really feel like picking it up to sell on Ebay -- too much hassle right now -- but I'd be happy to pick it up for someone here. After shipping, tax, and Paypal fees, it'd be about $580.

First to respond with a PM will get it. Please don't PM requesting pictures though -- this is simply me stopping by after work on my way to the train and being someone's personal shopper.

Let me know. Hopefully it'll still be there at day's end.

I was about to hit the PM button when I saw that it has single vent. Unless I'm riding a horse to work, I don't think I need a single vent coat/suit.

LOL. I thought everyone rode a horse out there in Hong Kong. What is up with the single vent haters?

We love horse-racing, yes, but beyond that, trust me, no one here cares much about horses.
On a side note, I am an avid rider and am always seeking interesting outfit for riding. Where do most members here get their equestrian gears/clothes?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there was one Gibbons and I bought it this morning for myself. It was clearly a MTM job, as it was tailored already and had working buttonholes, double vents, and a ticket pocket. I do see Gibbons occassionally though (probably I'll see two or three Gibbons every couple of months), and there is also a really incredible Rennaissance model for $750 at the Newton location. That model is a three button (lapel rolled just over the top button), double vents, three season fabric in a sort of light heather brown glen plaid with a red overpane (if I remembe correctly).

I'll make sure to keep my eye out. Actually, I think I've seen more Gibbons in odd sizes such as 43 than in sizes such as 40.

Anyone in Boston should check out the Downtown Filenes. They have a number of Oxxfords at 50% off, which is about $500. I just bought a beautiful glen plaid suit in 40R. I am sure they will go fast.

Yup, that's what I'm talking about. With tax they come to about $525. You picked up the taupe glen plaid, right Curt?
I'm glad I got there before you, or else you would have taken the double vented Gibbons with working buttonholes. I think that there is a chance a lot of these will go to triple markdown. There are about 10 Oxxfords in various sizes, though some fabrics will be more popular than others.

D'oh.  The DC Filene's are still stuck on 25% off suits $249.99 and up.  Does anyone know if this 50% discount is limited to the mother ship, or will it eventually make it out to the satellite branches?

The 50% thing is by virtue of the Downtown store's automatic markdown program. The intervals are 25%, 50%, and 75%. Once an item is tagged with a date, every 14 days thereafter it hits one of the sale intervals. Every so often, they apply the 25% to the automatic markdowns as well, but they didn't do that this time (yet). The Oxxfords Curt and I speak of are tagged either as 11/9 or 11/8. Hence, a 50% markdown.

Here's the strange thing -- about 1/2 of the Oxxfords on markdown right now (the 11/8 ones) were NOT tagged 11/8 until YESTERDAY. I have no idea why, but they took a bunch of them and just tagged on old date on them to get them to an immediate 50% markdown. Perhaps they did it just to the 3 season and winter weight fabrics. But I don't think this is the case, because some of them were in four season weights.

But, then, again, this is the same Filene's that for some reason gave an additional 25% off of automatic markdown suits and sportcoats THE SAME DAY that their remaining batch of Louis Boston stuff (which included Oxxford, Brioni, and Belvest) went on triple (75%) markdown. So, now you see why the Downtown basement is the ultimate Ebay sellers haven -- if a suit is priced at $1500, each interval is another $375. A lot of room for arbitrage there.

Yeah I picked up the taupe suit. Absolutely great fabric. It is a very soft Super 120s winter weight. I've never been lucky enough to spot an Oxxford at 75% off. There was also a chocolate brown 40R at 50% off that I passed on. If that moves to 75% I'd definitely pick it up.

Huh, I didn't see that chocolate brown and I was there at 8:15 am. Perhaps they are putting even more out with the mysterious 11/8 tags?
